Provides COVID-19 vaccine resources to everyone in Orange County.

Recommendations for Updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines Announced: 
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) endorsed recommendations for the use of updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. The new season’s COVID-19 vaccine is more closely matched to the strains of the virus circulating now and for those expected through winter. The new recommendations also further simplify the vaccination schedule for most individuals. The revised recommendations include the following:
  • Individuals 5 years of age and older regardless of previous vaccination are eligible to receive a single dose of an updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months since the last dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Individuals 6 months through 4 years of age who have previously been vaccinated against COVID-19 are eligible to receive one or two doses of an updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (timing and number of doses to administer depends on the previous COVID-19 vaccine received).
  • Unvaccinated individuals 6 months through 4 years of age are eligible to receive three doses of the updated authorized Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine or two doses of the updated authorized Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine.
  • Providers should review CDC Interim Clinical Considerations for the Use of COVID-19 Vaccines Currently Authorized in the United States when they are updated for the specific scenarios, including vaccinating immunocompromised individuals.
  • The bivalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines are no longer authorized for use in the United States. Bivalent Novavax vaccine remains authorized for use for those 12 years and older and may still be administered if it is determined that the individual should not wait for a 2023-2024 Novavax COVID-19 vaccine or receive a 2023-2024 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

Searchable COVID-19 Vaccine Walk-in or Appointment Databases
  • Vaccines.gov: A website provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and VaccineFinder from Boston Children's Hospital. The website allows users to search for and make an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a local provider location. Please visit https://www.vaccines.gov/
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): The CDC now has a new texting feature to locate a nearby vaccination site. Individuals can use their mobile phone and text their ZIP code to 438829 (GETVAX). 
  • My Turn: A website provided by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). The website allows for users to search for COVID-19 vaccine walk-in clinics or clinics that accept appointments. Appointments can be made for an individual or for a group.  Please visit https://myturn.ca.gov/ or call 833-422-4255. During registration, individuals can also sign-up to receive no-cost transportation to their vaccine appointment. 
  • Othena: A website and mobile app created by the County of Orange that can be used to find COVID-19 vaccine appointment options or locations that will accept walk-ins. Appointments for the County's mobile point-of-dispensing (POD) sites can be made through Othena. Please see the section below labeled, "COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Instructions for Othena" for a step-by-step guide on how to register and navigate through Othena. Children 5-17 years old must follow these requirements: Must have parental consent to be vaccinated, must have their parent or legal guardian schedule their appointment, must be accompanied by a parent or an adult legal guardian to receive the vaccine, and must only visit mobile point-of-dispensing (POD) sites where the vaccine they are eligible for is provided.

  • Hoag Memorial Hospital: Appointments are available. Please visit covid19.hoag.org/vaccine-community/
  • Kaiser Permanente: Appointments are available for members and non-members. Please visit healthy.kaiserpermanente.org/southern-california/health-wellness/coronavirus-information for more information.
  • Memorial Care: Offers COVID-19 Vaccine events to anyone that is 5 years and older. Minors aged 5-17 years old need to have a parent/guardian present to sign the consent form. The vaccines are at no cost, and people do not need medical insurance or social security card. Please visit https://www.memorialcare.org/coronavirus/covid-vaccine for more information. 
  • Providence/University of California, Irvine: Appointments are available when individuals sign up for My Turn. Please visit https://myturn.ca.gov/ to sign up or call 833-422-4255.
  • Veterans Affairs Health Care (VA Health Care): Veterans Affairs is now vaccinating all veterans enrolled or not in VA health care, regardless of the status of discharge. Veteran spouses, Veteran caregivers, and Veteran beneficiaries enrolled in the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) program can be vaccinated as well. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are accepted. Please call 562-826-5300 to schedule an appointment, or register at www.va.gov/health-care/covid-19-vaccine/sign-up, or fill out the 2021 VHA SAVE LIVES Act COVID-19 Vaccination Worksheet and bring it to the enrollment event. 
Cities and Community Clinics Providing COVID-19 Vaccines
  • CalOptima: CalOptima and the OC Health Care Agency are partnering to host vaccine clinics for kids and the community with support from community partners. CalOptima invites children ages 5–11 years to get vaccinated and encourages others aged 12 and older who are unvaccinated to attend the clinics as well. Vaccines available are Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson (1st, 2nd, 3rd doses, and boosters). Eligible CalOptima members can receive a $25 gift card per vaccine at the event. To register, members can call the COVID-19 Hotline at 714-834-2000 or use www.othena.com and select the appropriate vaccination site. Transportation for members can be arranged by calling CalOptima at 888-587-8088. Events are listed below.
  • Health Care Agency’s Family Health Clinic at 17th Street will conduct COVID-19-related services (testing, vaccinations and treatment) and will be identified as a vaccine and testing provider on myturn.ca.govwww.vaccine.gov and www.ochealthinfo.com. Residents will be able to call for an appointment at (800) 914-4887.
Assistance with COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments (Scheduling and Transportation) 
  • COVID-19 Hotline: Individuals who want to make a vaccine appointment at one of the mobile point-of-dispensing (POD) sites can call the Orange County COVID-19 Hotline, following the language prompts and by pressing "1". The Hotline can also assist with arranging for transportation to and from the POD site. Individuals who need Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation at any point-of-dispensing (POD) site can make a request when scheduling their appointment through the Hotline. Individuals 5-17 years old must have their parent or legal guardian schedule their vaccine appointment.
  • Employer Vaccination Toolkit: Provides information for employers about how to encourage and support employees in getting a COVID-19 vaccine. On the website, employers can partner with a local provider for an offsite vaccination event or the employer can also request a worksite mobile clinic. The Toolkit is provided by the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency and the California Department of Industrial Relations. 
  • Lyft: Individuals can request a no-cost or discounted ride to a COVID-19 vaccine site on the Lyft website or app. 
  • Othena: Eligible individuals can also request no-cost roundtrip rides to their COVID-19 vaccine appointments through the Othena.com website or smartphone app. 
At-Home COVID-19 Vaccination Options
  • At-Home/Home Bound Vaccinations: Individuals must check with their primary health care provider first. If they have already checked with their primary health care provider and are unable to be vaccinated, individuals may use the Othena website or app or contact the COVID-19 Hotline for more information. The Orange County Health Care Agency can provide at-home COVID-19 vaccination for Orange County community members who are: only able to be transported by ambulance and stretcher, and/or on a ventilator, and/or have severe behavioral challenges and cannot leave the home. Contacting the COVID-19 Hotline does NOT guarantee being able to receive an in-home vaccine.
COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Instructions for Othena
By setting up a profile on Othena.com, individuals will have access to scheduling vaccine appointments. 
  1. Visit the Othena website
  2. Click on "New Patients" in the top right-hand corner or scroll down to the section labeled, "Othena Service Center" and pick the type of service to request. A new tab will open. 
  3. In the new tab that opens, select "COVID-19 Vaccine". If eligible, individuals can request to schedule an at-home COVID-19 vaccination or schedule transportation to their COVID-19 Vaccine appointment from this tab. 
  4. After selecting, "COVID-19 Vaccine", click "Proceed" (the dark blue button in the bottom right-hand corner). 
  5. Fill out the COVID-19 Vaccination Pre-Screening Questionnaire. 
  6. Select an available time slot at a COVID-19 vaccine appointment location. There are three filters at the top, above the results showing the COVID-19 vaccine appointment options. The first filter on the the left with the three lines and circles can be used to filter through the results based on the preferred vaccine, the user's zip code, and specific services available at the COVID-19 vaccine location (such as being offered via drive-thru, if walk-ups are available, and other specific features of the COVID-19 vaccine location). The second filter in the middle allows the user to select the preferred vaccine and the third filter on the right allows the user to change the date the user is looking to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment for. 
  7. Once the preferred location, date, time, and vaccine (if the user has a preference) has been selected, click on "Register". The "Register" button is dark blue and in the bottom right-hand corner. If the user already has an account with Othena, they should click on the button saying, "Log in Here". This button is also in dark blue and is located to the left of the "Register" button. 
  8. The user should then input their phone number and email address. After inputting this information, click on "Proceed" in the bottom right-hand corner.
  9. From there, the user will be asked to verify their account. The user will choose whether a code will be sent to their phone number or the email address they provided. Once they receive the code, they will need to enter the code into Othena.
  10. After the code has been entered, the user can create their password and their account with Othena will be officially created. The user will also receive an email confirmation for the COVID-19 vaccine appointment they scheduled. This email will include instructions about how to prepare for their COVID-19 vaccine appointment, how to schedule the second dose of the vaccine if the appointment is for their primary/initial series (meaning, the first time they are receiving any COVID-19 vaccine), and if needed, there will be a link at the end of the email to reschedule the COVID-19 vaccine appointment. 
  11. Users can download the Othena app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. 
  12. The next time that the user logs into Othena, they will be asked to fill out their profile with demographic information and insurance information (if applicable). 
  13. Othena will send an appointment reminder with a Day-Of Appointment Assessment. Individuals can save time on vaccination day if they complete the assessment before their appointment. The assessment can also be accessed through the Othena app (underneath the details for the COVID-19 Vaccine appointment, there will be a dark blue button that says, "Take Assessment"). 
  14. When individuals check-in at their appointment, they can show the Quick Response (QR) code attached to their COVID-19 Vaccine appointment confirmation email. If the individual has the Othena app, the QR code will also be available on the app. This can be found by clicking on "View Details" underneath the appointment information.
  15. Once vaccinated, Othena will provide a COVID-19 Vaccination Quick Response (QR) Passport code and vaccine status (in the app and online). Users can check which vaccine they received on the "Vaccination Round" page in Othena. Individuals will also receive a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card. The QR code and the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record card can be added to the individual's digital wallet. 
Family Feature on Othena: Othena also offers a "Family Feature", which provides the ability to add family members into one account. Unique emails are not required for each family member. Family members will receive notifications through their email, but they do not own their own account and cannot login separately from the original account they are listed under. Their account is managed and owned by the family member who signed them up. Please note that when one family member schedules an appointment with their individual invitation, it does not apply to everyone in the account. Each family member must be eligible to receive the vaccine and they will be required to show proof of eligibility at their first scheduled appointment. 

Resource for Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination
  • Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record Portal: The State of California has launched a voluntary portal for individuals who want to share proof of vaccination. Individuals can use either the electronic version that they will get from the portal or the card they were given at the time of vaccination. Individuals who have lost their vaccination card are encouraged to access a digital version of their vaccination record through the Vaccine Record Portal. If the individual is a parent or guardian and have multiple vaccine records associated with a single cell phone number or email address, they can enter each digital vaccine record request separately.
