Offers a free EnergyStar refrigerator exchange if the current refrigerator is 10 or more years old. Must meet income guidelines. The existing refrigerator will be relinquished at the time the new refrigerator is delivered. Your old refrigerator will be dismantled and recycled. It may not be kept, sold, or given away.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: You may qualify for the Low-Income Refrigerator Replacement Program if:
-You qualify for SMUD's Energy Assistance Program Rate (EARP) discount.
-You agree to let SMUD do a free weatherization audit and inspect the area around your refrigerator.
-Your trade-in refrigerator is at least 10 years old and still working.
-You must sign a waiver giving SMUD permission to remove and recycle the old refrigerator.
-You haven't received a free refrigerator from SMUD in at least 10 years.

*Open to renters with the landlord or property manager's sign-off.
