Description

A SMUD Energy Specialist will walk you through personalized tips to conserve energy and determine if you qualify for free measures to make your home more energy efficient. Once a need is determined, a SMUD contractor will contact you to schedule an in-house appointment that follows all current safety precautions.

Assistance may include:

  • Renter - Apartment: eligible for an advanced power strip, fan, and LED light bulbs*
  • Renter - House: eligible for a programmable thermostat, advanced power strip, LED light bulbs, insulation, and minor efficiency upgrades*
  • Homeowner: eligible for some heating and cooling repairs or replacements, energy efficiency upgrades (or switching from gas to electric appliances), and electrical vehicle chargers

*Landlord or property manager sign-off required depending on items being requested.

Eligibility: Low-income customers who qualify for the Energy Assistance Program Rate (EAPR) income guidelines listed below (200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, effective as of January 2025).

Income-Based Eligibility Guidelines:
Household size of 1: monthly income of $2,608; annual income of $31,300
Household size of 2: monthly income of $3,525; annual income of $42,300
Household size of 3: monthly income of $4,442; annual income of $53,300
Household size of 4: monthly income of $5,358; annual income of $64,300
Household size of 5: monthly income of $6,275; annual income of $75,300
Household size of 6: monthly income of $7,192; annual income of $86,300
Household size of 7: monthly income of $8,108; annual income of $97,300
Household size of 8: monthly income of $9,025; annual income of $108,300

Add $917 for each additional person in the household.

Households are eligible for the discounted rate if their income doesn't exceed 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. These figures reflect that percentage.
